The Sabarmati River is deeply woven into India’s journey of freedom, self-reliance, and nation-building. It was on the banks of the Sabarmati, at the historic Sabarmati Ashram, that Mahatma Gandhi nurtured the ideals of truth, simplicity, self-reliance, and service to humanity. From this sacred place emerged transformative movements that inspired millions and shaped the destiny of the nation.
Inspired by Gandhiji’s vision and values, Serve Happiness Foundation launched the Sabarmati Prerna Yatra—a unique experiential learning journey designed to inspire today’s youth by connecting them with extraordinary grassroots changemakers, social entrepreneurs, innovators, and institutions across the Sabarmati region. Participants witness inspiring models in rural development, education, healthcare, agriculture, dairy, women empowerment, handicrafts, sustainability, and social innovation.
More than just a journey, Sabarmati Prerna Yatra is an invitation to rediscover India’s spirit of service, leadership, and innovation. Manav Sadhna : Founded in 1990 at Mahatma:
Gandhi’s Ashram, Ahmedabad, Manav Sadhna transforms lives through love, service, and compassion. Inspired by Gandhian values, it empowers over 8,000 children and women annually through education, healthcare, livelihoods, and community-driven development initiatives.
Gramshree
Gramshree empowers over 2,000 women artisans across Gujarat by preserving traditional crafts while creating sustainable livelihoods. Through skill development, fair wages, and home-based employment, it enables women to achieve financial independence, dignity, and stronger families through the power of craftsmanship.
The Environmental Sanitation Institute (ESI):
Founded in 1985 by Padma Shri Ishwarbhai Patel, the Environmental Sanitation Institute (ESI) promotes health, dignity, and sustainable development through sanitation and hygiene. Inspired by Gandhian values, ESI empowers rural and urban communities by integrating sanitation with education, health, and environmental conservation.
Craftroots:
An initiative of Gramshree, empowers over 17,000 artisans by preserving Gujarat’s rich craft heritage and connecting them with markets, designers, and institutions. Promoting 27 traditional crafts, it creates sustainable livelihoods while reviving timeless craftsmanship for future generations.
Together, our role models, grassroots organizations, local communities, volunteers, and partners create a vibrant ecosystem of learning and inspiration. Through experiential journeys, meaningful conversations, and community engagement, Prerna Yatra fosters leadership, social innovation, environmental stewardship, and sustainable livelihoods. It promotes leadership, service, and purposeful living through real-life experiences.
The Yatra is open to students, professionals, entrepreneurs, educators, corporates, families, social workers, and anyone above 15 years of age who is passionate about learning, leadership, community service, and exploring India’s rich heritage and social innovation ecosystem.
Participants interact with inspiring role models, visit Gandhian institutions, social enterprises, grassroots organizations, and heritage sites, experience local culture, engage in meaningful discussions, and build lifelong friendships while discovering purpose and leadership through experiential learning.
