Empowering Young Engineers to Become Problem Solvers
Nitin Tailor, Founder of Serve Happiness Foundation, conducted a one-day Design Thinking Workshop for over 100 first-year engineering students at Government Engineering College (GEC), Bharuch. Organized by the SSIP Cell and the Department of Electrical Engineering, the workshop encouraged students to develop an innovation-driven mindset and become solution-oriented thinkers from the very beginning of their engineering journey.
From Job Seekers to Job Creators
Sharing his own journey from an engineer and corporate professional to a social entrepreneur, Nitin inspired students to move beyond conventional career aspirations and become job creators rather than job seekers. He emphasized that India’s greatest opportunities lie in solving real-world challenges through innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology.
Students were encouraged to identify local problems and develop impactful solutions in areas such as healthcare, education, agriculture, waste management, environmental sustainability, renewable energy, and community development. He explained that successful startups are built by understanding people’s needs and creating meaningful value for society.
Design Thinking for Social Impact
The workshop introduced students to the principles of Design Thinking, encouraging them to empathize with users, identify root causes of problems, generate innovative ideas, develop prototypes, and continuously improve solutions through feedback.
Interactive brainstorming sessions enabled students to work in teams and propose innovative ideas addressing healthcare accessibility, environmental conservation, public governance, and sustainable living. The activity demonstrated that creativity, collaboration, and empathy are essential ingredients for successful innovation.
Harnessing AI with Responsibility
A key highlight of the session was the discussion on the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in transforming industries and society. Nitin encouraged students to use AI not merely as a technological tool but as a force for solving complex social challenges ethically and responsibly.
He emphasized that while technology is advancing rapidly, the qualities that will distinguish future leaders are creativity, empathy, ethical decision-making, and a commitment to serving humanity. Technology should always be guided by human values and social responsibility.
